Comic Artist Evolution

A year-by-year retrospective of some of the greatest comic book artists to put pencil to paper.

Arthur Adams 1987: Uncanny X-Men #218 (Inks: Bob Wiacek)

While I try to focus on the graphic storytelling in the pages of the book, I’m also a sucker for examples that show process, like this example of Adams’ sketches and finished, inked, and colored artwork for the cover of Uncanny X-Men #218.

I also want to call attention to inker Bob Wiacek, who — along with Terry Austin — is a perfect complement to Adams’ detailed pencils.
